We intend to provide more clarity and insight into the tactics, and strategies that composed a civil war battle.
We plan to explain the how, what, where, and when these battles were fought, what types of weapons were used and why the tactics developed fit the capabilities of the weapons engaged. When engaging in battle, in the field, in Napoleonic warfare, the basic formation has the infantry at the front with the artillery behind the infantry. The cavalry would be in reserve, scouting, or on one or both ends of the army. Napoleonic warfare teaches to concentrate the power of the army to be able to defeat your opponent.

The battle of Cedar Creek fought in the Shenandoah Valley on October 19, 1864, was a costly engagement on both sides. Private J. Pressley of the 3rd Alabama Volunteer Infantry Regiment, A.N.V. fought and was wounded in the Battle of Cedar Creek. Pressley, a musician, wrote this historic tune about the battle to memorialize the sacrifices of his fellow soldiers. The source for the tune "Battle of Cedar Creek" is Howard Zane, I had the pleasure of talking with Howard about this song and his interesting story.

This video outlines the Native American history of the Shenandoah Valley and sets the stage for many more interesting stories to come.

The result of the 1864 battle of Fisher's Hill was, that Phil Sheridan's Union army would come into the Shenandoah valley and burn every food stock, Barn, and take all the livestock. This is a Modern war strategy of destroying the ability of the combatant to make war.The Daughter of the Stars Theater is an upcoming venue in Stanley, VA, that will soon be hosting live music acts, and bringing them directly to your living room, live, through YouTube.

The American civil war was a war of transition. In the early part of the war up to Gettysburg, it was mainly Napoleonic warfare where defeating the other person's army in the field and capturing the combatant Capital was thought to be the way to victory. In 1864 this changed. The commanders in the Union, Sheridan, and Sherman understood that this was a new type of war it was Total War. To win in Total war you have to destroy your opponent's ability to wage war. The Union army’s strategic objective was to destroy the foodstuffs of the Shenandoah Valley, the breadbasket of the Confederacy. This is what led to The Burning of the Shenandoah Valley.

Music is another area we're going to feature much on this channel and in the Theater. The unique geography of the Shenandoah valley lent itself to the creation of a specific type of American music called bluegrass. Together we will explore the curious and remarkable history and culture of the Shenandoah Valley.

The Daughter of the Stars Theater is created based on the ideas of "Finding your Guiding Star." What is the guiding star? It's an idea. It's a direction. Sailors out on the Ocean with ships of sail had to use the North Star with a sexton to figure out where they were. Then they decide where to go. This guidance of a star is what we hope to inspire others to find. Every individual has the ability to do wonderful things. Passions of the individual direct them to follow something they find good, interesting, or intriguing. We hope that you find a guiding star. We say to ourselves, “this is my guidance” and “I will follow it.” We invite you to join us on this journey. Please like and subscribe to our YouTube channel, and we hope you find your Guiding Star!
